Many of you noticed the recent of the news coverage of the Milwaukee Urban Stables—so you know that the project continues to move forward. The Stables has passed several hurdles with the City and it comes up for one more vote by the City Council in September. Community leaders are actively engaged in securing construction financing and the final fundraising push. We are just $500,000 shy of the community goal of $5.6 million.
As envisioned, the Milwaukee Urban Stables is more than just a home for police horses, and it is not just a stable. It is a community center built around the activities of the MPD Mounted Patrol and the activities associated with equine assisted trauma-informed curative work.
A programming committee that includes representatives of Hamilton High School, the VA Hospital, MPD, Safe & Sound as well as the Rotary Club of Milwaukee has been meeting regularly.
We are still on track to break ground this fall.
