Let’s Support Feeding America During Uncertain Times

Your Contribution Helps Community Members in Urgent Need

With the uncertainties surrounding SNAP benefits and continuing shortages at food pantries, Rotary Club of Milwaukee members asked that our club step up to help people in our community who are facing food insecurity.

Fearing future freezes in federal assistance, food banks and other organizations have scaled up efforts to help those in need of nutritional assistance. Even before the government shutdown, pantries were seeing record increases in demand and numerous pantries in Greater Milwaukee have reported completely running out of food during distributions. High grocery costs and the upcoming holiday season make the shortages even more concerning.

During a recent virtual discussion led by Rotary Club of Milwaukee Treasurer Bill Coleman, our members endorsed supporting Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin as the best way to support people in need in our community.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, the largest hunger relief organization in the state (originally founded as Second Harvest by our club in 1982), collaborates with 100 pantry partners and trusted community-based programs across the city and 300 in the metro area. Feeding America’s partner pantries were reporting a 30% demand increase across the state and 1 in 10 pantries were experiencing a 50% or greater increase in demand in October alone.

As a leader in the hunger-relief space, Feeding America can respond in times of high need but relies heavily on financial support from the community to source more food in bulk quantities. Monetary donations allow the organization to quickly procure the most-needed food items, including proteins, produce and dairy.

For just a moment, imagine the physical and emotional distress of facing food insecurity and having to seek assistance. Then, in this member-led initiative, please consider donating $100 or more to Feeding America through the RCM Community Fund. Your donation will be matched one-for-one by the RCM Community Trust up to $35,000.

Together, we can help nourish individuals and families in our community during this time of drastic instability. Thank you for your generosity to make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling in our community.
