Flood Response

 
Rotarians have been asking what they can do to support our neighbors in Milwaukee who have lost so much in the recent floods.  Here's an opportunity - the Rotary Club of Milwaukee Board of Directors approved a challenge grant to support the flood relief efforts of Feeding America.  This challenge grant from the RCM Community Trust will match all donations dollar for dollar up to $10,000.
 
Why Feeding America?
 
The Rotary Club takes great pride in having been active in the formation of Feeding America's predecessor organization, Second Harvest.  
 
Feeding America's Flood Impact Snapshot: 
  • At least 15 Food Pantry and Meal Program partners have sustained flood damage, including lost food inventory, shelving, refrigeration/freezer units, and forklifts.
  • 10 programs remain closed for the foreseeable future.
  • Roughly 50% of partners in affected areas remain unreachable.
  • Unaffected pantries are already experiencing an influx of new visitors due to the closures, with demand expected to increase.
  • Feeding America is collecting emergency distribution schedules and coordinating with operations staff to ensure replacement product is delivered for upcoming distributions.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin has launched a dedicated Emergency Food Response Fund to purchase large allotments of food for our pantry partners most affected by the recent flooding, as well as for residents in the hardest-hit neighborhoods. This fund will allow Feeding America to quickly restock shelves, bridge service gaps, and support their network as they work to resume operations.
 
Feeding America is in daily communication with partners and community-based programs affected by the storms to assess needs and direct resources where they are most urgently required. Their priority is ensuring families have consistent access to nutritious food throughout this recovery process.
 
How to Give

The Rotary Club of Milwaukee is accepting donations for Feeding America's Flood Response Fund and all donations will be matched dollar for dollar by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee. All donations should be made to the RCM Community Fund (EIN: 47-5109357).
