Jeffrey DeLaurentis, Former United States Ambassador to Cuba

October 13th, 2026
 

On October 13th, we will hear from Jeffrey DeLaurentis, Former United States Ambassador to Cuba. During his 28-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service, Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis worked almost exclusively on Western Hemisphere issues as well as on multilateral diplomacy efforts at the United Nations. He served as the first Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Havana following the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba during the Obama Administration. Prior to taking up his post in Havana in August 2014, he was the Ambassador for Special Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.

U.N. Day Program with Joe Cirincione, former President of Ploughshares Fund

As the United Nations marks its 81st anniversary, Joe Cirincione will discuss the enduring need for an organization that remains the premier global arena for world leaders tackling the most serious problems facing the peoples of the world. Today, we need the United Nations for much more, including forging global responses to artificial intelligence, pandemics, terrorism, poverty and nuclear war. 

Cirincione, who has worked in national security and foreign policy for 45 years and is widely regarded as a leading expert on nuclear weapons policy, will share his perspective on why, now more than ever, we need a revitalized United Nations to solve problems no nation can solve on its own.

Rotarian Marissa Jablonski, Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin

On October 27th, we will hear from Marissa Jablonski, Executive Director, Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin and Adjunct Professor, School of Freshwater Sciences at UWM. 

Plastics and Your Water: From the Individual to the World.

In this talk, Dr. Marissa Jablonski will detail the value of reducing single-use plastics in your home and business in order to effect change in your water quality and decrease harm we are doing on natural local ecosystems. You will walk away with tangible actions that have worked in 6 continents across the globe.

Chancellor Thomas Gibson, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Chancellor Thomas Gibson was inaugurated as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s 10th chancellor on September 25 – the same day UWM turned 70 years old. On November 3rd, Rotarians will get to know more about him, what he learned during his first full year and his vision for the university going forward.

Dr. McCrea, Medical College of Wisconsin and the BRAVE Program

November 10th, 2026
 

Military veterans and first responders from across the country are traveling to Milwaukee to receive care from a unique Medical College of Wisconsin-led program designed specifically to treat their “hidden injuries” of service. BRAVE (Building Resilience through Action in Veterans and First Responders) is an initiative of the Wisconsin Institute of NeuroScience (WINS) and the Midwest’s only comprehensive outpatient program for treating mild traumatic brain injuries in military veterans and first responders.

Dr. Michael McCrea, professor of neurosurgery and director of brain injury research at the Medical College of Wisconsin and interim director of WINS, will highlight the BRAVE program and its rapid growth, along with how WINS is transforming neuroscience research, clinical care, and education from right here in Milwaukee.

“Why Rotary” with Rotary District 6270 Governor Dawn Fielder

November 24th, 2026

 

Dawn Fielder, District Governor for our Rotary District in southeastern Wisconsin, is a past President of the Elkhorn Rotary Club and the founder and president of Join the Movement Events, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing education about human trafficking. On Tuesday, November 24, Dawn will share her personal journey, explaining what Rotary means to her and how she has leveraged Rotary’s global network in the fight against human trafficking. Dawn's message will be followed by table conversations where members will connect with one another and reflect on what Rotary means in their own lives.
