This past year has seen a challenging geopolitical environment grow only more dangerous. A new, three-way arms race between the US, Russia, and China grows more likely. Emboldened by arms deals with Russia, Pyongyang has renewed their belligerence towards the West. The Israel-Gaza conflict threatens to broaden into a regionwide war, which could drive Iran to sprint for the bomb. And the Russo-Ukrainian War grinds through its third year with the threat of nuclear weapons ever looming. International diplomacy and institutions like the United Nations are more important than ever in creating the peaceful world we seek. Dr. Emma Belcher is a world-renowned expert on nuclear weapons policy and the President of Ploughshares - the largest foundation singularly focused on reducing the threat of nuclear weapons. |
