December 18th edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,  Bill Rotter, Owner of National Ace Hardware, graced the first page of the business section in an article abou the closing of the last National Ace Hardware.

 

TEMPO Milwaukee announced their receipients of the 2016 Mentor Awards which includes Rotarian Christy Brown, CEO of Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast.

 

Maja Jurisic, VP and Medical Director for National Accounts, Concentra received a Comp Laude award in Los Angeles from  national organization "Workers' Compensation Central."   The "President's Honor Roll" comprises the "Best of the Best" professionals in workers' compensation, nominated by their peers. Those chosen for the President's Honor Roll are people who make workers' compensation better by performing their jobs with integrity and going above and beyond the call of duty in pursuit of excellence.

 

Rob Henken, President, Public Policy Forum, ‚Äč was interviewed for the cover story about the Public Policy Forum's recent student on millenials in the December 11th edition of the Milwaukee Business Journal.

David Buck presented a paper over Labor Day weekend at the 22nd International Congress of Scientific Historians in Jinan, Shandong, China.  David was in Beijing for the big military parade on September 3rd.  He discussed the importance of the parade for China and its leader Xi Jinping in an interview with Doug Savage of UWM’s Institute of World Affairs.  Milwaukee PBS, channel 36, will broadcast that interview on its International Focus program on Sunday, September 12, 2015 at 4:30 PM.  The interview will be archived on YouTube.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has named The Man Who Painted the Universe, by Ron Legro and Rotarian Avi Lank, as one of its 100 hot summer reads, and one of 12 recommended books by Wisconsin authors.  It was published by Wisconsin Historical Society Press in May and the official launch party is on June 15th, 7pm at Boswell Books.

The 2014 United Way campaign, spearheaded by Thelma A. Sias, vice president of local affairs for We Energies with two other co-chairs, raised $54,029,869 in its annual community campaign this year, exceeding the $53.8 million projected goal.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Amy Jensen, Managing Director of the Skylight Music Theatre, will be stepping down from her position at the end of the current season to pursue a new professional path.

On November 4th, Dan Meyer, Publisher of Biz Times Media, hosted the first annual Nonprofit Excellence Awards—and Rotary was very well represented!   Alan Petelinsek, CEO of Power Test, joined a panel discussion of business leaders sharing his vision for giving back. Two Rotarians received corporate citizenship awards:

  • Pam Evason, Windermere Wealth Advisors,  was honored for her “Next Generation Leadership”
  • Kevin Behl, Madison Medical Affiliates, was honored as the “Corporate Volunteer of the Year”

  • Bonnie Bellehuemer, CEO of Feeding America, was recognized as the Nonprofit Executive of the Year, and members Lynda Kohler of Sharp Literacy and Sister Edna of the St. Ann Center were honored as runner ups.
  • The Water Council (Dean Amhaus is President & CEO) was named the top Social Enterprise
  • The Urban Ecology Center, where Rotarian Beth Heller is Sr. Director of Education, and Menomonee Valley Partners were recognized as the best collaboration.A collaboration that included the Boys and Girls Club, United Way and the Salvation Army received an honorable mention.
  • Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee (Rotarian Lynnea Katz Petted is the Executive Director) was a runner up for the best small nonprofit.

Community volunteer Jill Pelisek, who has served on the Columbia College of Nursing Board for 19 years, will be awarded an honorary degree at the Columbia College of Nursing graduation ceremony on May 10th. This is a particularly compelling honor as it is the only honorary degree ever awarded by the Columbia College of Nursing.
