Update from Rotaract

By Janine Kolbeck, Rotaract President 2014-15

Campaign Quito… Rotaract MKE is happy to announce the completion of our Campaign Quito 2012-14 International project for the Refugio de los Sueños in Quito, Ecuador. Through this campaign the organization has raised over $2,400. In October of 2013, Janine Kolbeck and Stephanie Graham went to the Refugio to work directly with the kids and help wherever needed. Those children made a lasting impression on the entire club, especially Janine and Stephanie.

During the 2013-2014 year, our organization held a variety of fundraisers to help the Refugio including a Guest Bartending Night and a Zumbathon. With the efforts of the year we are able to support 10 kids for 1 year at the Refugio allowing for food, clothing, and school supplies, but most importantly a safe place to take refuge. We thank all the Rotarians for their support and participation during this campaign!

Mentorship... It’s the buzz word these days and a valuable part of community service. Rotaract works to foster professional and leadership development in the Rotary tradition, and in that spirit, we’ve created a mentorship program to work with current Rotarians, our community leaders. As protégés we are looking for mentors who can help navigate our at times unclear career paths. Already finished with college with at least a few years of work experience under our belts, we are looking for advice to “what’s the next best step?”  Time commitment is minimal, once a month, but the benefits are abundant!

If you’re in non-profit, finance, healthcare, real estate, or entrepreneurial vocations, and willing to give a bit more to an eager young Rotaractor, please reach out to the Rotary office or Janine Kolbeck at Janine.kolbeck@gmail.com.
