A few weeks ago, the Rotary office heard from the Rotary Club of Guatemala Vista Hermosa, our local partner club for the water filter project in Joyabaj, Guatemala. This project, a partnership with Engineers Without Borders, nearly complete, is supported by a Rotary International Global Grant.
Rotarian Julio Grazioso and others from the Vista Hermosa club recently visited the filter site and the Joyabaj hospital to talk about education and training. Julio wrote to tell us: “I am astonished by the filter. I think this is the kind of project we should focus on: big impact, low ratio cost/beneficiaries.” The Vista Hermosa Rotarians were extremely impressed not only with the filter itself, but with all of the people they met associated with the project during their visit.
As Mike Paddock, Rotarian and member of the professional chapter of Engineers Without Borders, says “This is an excellent example of the partnership with clubs that Global Grants can lead to.”
The World Community Service committee is planning a Rotary trip to Guatemala in February 2015 to vsiit this and other projects - click this link for more information!
