Committee Aims to Increase Club’s “Global Fluency”

Our Club launched its Global Milwaukee Committee almost two years ago with the goal of helping members understand, and benefit from global business trends and developments. Discussing member companies’ international business experiences, tapping into state / regional / local expertise on global commerce, and Skyping with business representatives around the world, has added to our members’ ‘global fluency’. 
To date, we’ve brought in executives from both Harley-Davidson and AO Smith to discuss China, hosted both a local expert on and a fellow Rotarian from India, conferred via Skype with businessmen in Germany, México and Brazil, and have strengthened our Club’s ties with WEDC’s International Division, WMEP and its ExporTech program, the M7’s Export Services initiative, and the US Department of Commerce’s local Export Assistance office.  We’ve also realized that there is an amazing amount of global business experience, and interest, in our Rotary Club.
We see a continued need in our Club for supporting our members’ global business interests, and for staying connected to the state and regional initiatives to help grow Milwaukee and Wisconsin’s export base. We see a natural connection between the committee and Club members who are in manufacturing, and hopefully we can leverage the work of the committee to attract more members from the manufacturing community. 
However, we know that services are portable, so our professional service members are invited to see how ‘global fluency’ might expand their business opportunities.  In all, we want to make certain that our Global Milwaukee Committee is viewed as one more important value-added benefit to our Club members.
