October 2015 Newsletter

Double golf outings led to double fun and record proceeds for the RCM Scholarship Program this summer! Our rain date outing yielded an additional boost to our proceeds, bringing the total over $60,000, a new record by more than $10,000.
A rainy morning on June 15th, the date of the original 2015 Scholarship Golf Classic, meant that the course at Ozaukee Country Club was just too soggy for carts. Participants were given the option to walk the course, and with the sun out in the afternoon, quite a few golfers did just that. More than half of the original 140 showed up and had a great time – and plenty of exercise. That evening the bidding was fierce at the silent and live auctions, with an especially lively bidding war between Leslie Hauser and Roger Smith on a special event package for the commissioning of the U.S.S. Milwaukee. All parties went home happy as both Leslie and Roger took home a package and we raised double the money for scholarships!
We had another great turnout at the rain date outing on August 31st, with over 100 golfers hitting the links. This year’s new mulligan & raffle package proved very popular, which helped bring the total 50/50 raffle haul to over $3,400. Philip Hanrahan (father of Rotarian Mike) was the lucky winner. He generously returned some of his winnings in a direct scholarship donation, and was in great company with many other donors!
This year’s record fun and proceeds would not have been possible without the generosity of our Scholarship Golf Classic committee members, sponsors, auction donors, and everyone who came out to golf, dine and shop with us. The club thanks chairs Bill Rotter and Mike Kellman for their excellent leadership. Look for an announcement soon about the date and location for the 2016 outing – the planning is already underway!
