The Partners in Education committee is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience and interests of children in the Milwaukee community by partnering Rotarians and their businesses with K-12 schools. We offer our partner schools speakers on careers, mentoring, off-site visits, summer camp opportunities and other activities. As a result of this experience, we seek to offer our fellow Rotarians insight about the educational issues and challenges of our city.
Recently, The Partners in Education committee has forged a rigorous partnership with the Oliver Wendell Holmes (OWH) School and Brown Street Academy (BSA) to build strong ties between OWH & BSA students and Rotarians. The committee has created intensive mentoring programs, funded the Mad Hot Ballroom & Tap program, supported collaboration with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater to offer an introduction to theater arts and provided scholarships funds for students to attend programming at the Urban Ecology Center.
This year PIE is delving deeper at BSA by coordinating literacy tutoring sessions with small groups of students. PIE’s partnership with BSA builds on the $125,000 gift RCM made to help restore the BSA schoolyard.
