Rotarians support local veterans, members serving in the armed forces, and their families in all of the military services through our Veterans and Military Support Committee, with some members themselves veterans.
In 2008, RCM became a sponsor for the commissioning of the USS FREEDOM (LC1), the first ever commissioning of a Navy ship in Milwaukee. In 2009, we collected many books from the members of our club and sent them to the ship for crew members to enjoy.
Each year in May the Military Service Support committee supports the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, which plans the annual Armed Forces Week. The committee also engages a special military speaker and plans activities for a special Rotary luncheon honoring all of the Armed Forces during Armed Forces Week.
Other notable recent committee contributions included:
- Support for the Honor Flight Program, in which WW II veterans from throughout the state are flown on one day to Washington, D.C. to see the WW II Memorial
- Enabling children of veterans to attend the World Affairs Seminar
- Establishing new contacts with officials successfully finding education and employment for veterans
